Having trouble with Jitsi?

There is a browser-based connection and an actual app. Different people have different results from each choice, but if one isn’t working for you, try the other one (if that’s an option).

To help address issue, we also asked ChatGPT to give us some suggestions on what to try with problems we know about.

Jitsi iPhone audio problems

It is likely that the Jitsi Meet application does not have permission to access the microphone, which would prevent the user from unmuting their audio. Here’s how to verify and fix this issue on an Apple iPhone:

Step 1: Check and Enable Microphone Permissions
Open Settings on the iPhone.
Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security.
Tap Microphone.
Look for Jitsi Meet in the list.
Ensure the toggle switch next to Jitsi Meet is turned on (green).
If it is off, turn it on and restart the Jitsi Meet app.

Step 2: Check Jitsi Meet App-Specific Settings
Open Settings on the iPhone.
Scroll down and find Jitsi Meet in the list of installed apps.
Tap on it and ensure Microphone is enabled.

Step 3: Restart the Jitsi Meet App
Close the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen (or double-clicking the home button on older iPhones) and swiping the Jitsi Meet app away.
Reopen Jitsi Meet and try unmuting.

Step 4: Check If Another App is Using the Microphone
Some apps (e.g., FaceTime, WhatsApp, or Zoom) may still be using the microphone in the background.
Restart the iPhone to ensure the microphone is released from other applications.

Step 5: Reinstall Jitsi Meet
Press and hold the Jitsi Meet app icon on the home screen.
Tap Remove App → Delete App.
Reinstall Jitsi Meet from the App Store.
Open the app and grant microphone permissions when prompted.

Step 6: Check iOS Restrictions
If the device is managed by a workplace or school:
Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions.
Tap Microphone under “Privacy” and ensure Jitsi Meet is allowed.
After these steps, the person should be able to unmute in Jitsi Meet. Let me know if the issue persists!
